San Francisco Board of Supervisors Meeting
On September 28th, 2021, San Francisco Board of Supervisors’ President Walton Honored Kristina. (Timestamp 3:52:57)
“Kristina Sagala Balagtas was born in Little Rock, Arkansas, as the daughter of Eduardo and Carmelita Balagtas, and the younger sister of Christopher Balagtas. She attended Mount St. Mary Academy High School in Little Rock before graduating from Baptist Health Schools with her nursing degree. She grew up admiring her parents who are both nurses. When she moved to California 11 years ago, she went into the specialized field of hospice on a whim, not knowing what it truly entailed. After being in the field for more than a decade, she says, "I'm glad I took that leap of faith because I truly feel I have found my calling and I can't see myself doing anything else."
She was truly passionate about nursing, and served countless patients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area in her career. During her downtime, Kristina enjoys hiking, wine tasting, puzzles, and spending time with friends and family. She believes in self-love, determination, and inner strength and is inspired by the quote: "She believed she could, so she did." She is survived by her parents Eduardo and Carmelita Balagtas, her older brother Christopher Balagtas, her sister-in-law Iris Balagtas, her nephews Apollo and Dakota, and her loving 7-year-old dog Kobe.”

“Kristina was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, and grew up admiring her parents who are both nurses. When she moved to California 11 years ago, she went into the specialized field of hospice on a whim, not knowing what it truly entailed. After being in the field for more than a decade, she says, "I'm glad I took that leap of faith because I truly feel I have found my calling and I can't see myself doing anything else." During her time as a hospice nurse, Kristina served countless patients across the Bay Area, many in San Mateo. She loves the San Mateo area and the residents who live here, and had some of her best memories - both personally and as a nurse - in San Mateo. While serving patients in San Mateo, when Kristina lived in the East Bay, she would regularly visit various restaurants before going home, one of her favorites being Panera Bread. She has fond memories of days spent at Central Park and Downtown, enjoying the bountiful and ecclectic assortment of experiences that San Mateo has to offer. The week of her passing, she spent the weekend at a company picnic in Central Park, and later at Pinstripes in Hillsdale Mall. Now, she is able to visit San Mateo any time she chooses.”
